On March 31, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced that it will deploy the Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) system at nine additional VA facilities in 2026. The goal of the new EHR is to provide a seamless and paperless experience for veterans as they transition from receiving care at the Department of Defense while on active duty to receiving care at VA facilities.
The following VA medical centers and their associated clinics will go live with their EHR updates in 2026: Cincinnati-Fort Thomas in Kentucky; Chillicothe, Cincinnati, Dayton and Louis Stokes Cleveland in Ohio; Fort Wayne, Marion and Richard L. Roudebush in Indiana; and the Alaska VA Healthcare System.
The VA plans to deploy the EHR system to 13 sites in 2026. Full implementation at every VA facility is expected as early as 2031.
This EHR system is the same one operated by the DOD. It aims to modernize the health care system and improve customer service and convenience for both VA and DOD patients.
