I’m honored to step into the role of national service director, as it represents both a personal milestone and a continuation of a lifelong commitment to those who have served. Looking back at my journey with DAV, I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow alongside such dedicated colleagues.
Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of working in the field as a national service officer, office supervisor and national area supervisor in Pittsburgh before joining DAV’s professional staff in Washington, D.C. Those experiences have shaped my perspective on our mission. I look forward to working with all of you to ensure our organization remains the nation’s premier veterans organization for years to come.
Before joining DAV, I was an Army combat and flight medic who saw firsthand the toll service can have on veterans. The military taught me lessons that continue to guide my leadership: working as a team, being accountable and always prioritizing the mission. Whether while deploying to Iraq aboard Black Hawk helicopters or leading soldiers at home, I learned that success depends on building trust and working toward a common purpose.
However, my own service is just one part of a much larger story. The path to serve my nation and the veteran community was laid well before I ever raised my hand. My father was a Vietnam veteran who served with the 82nd Airborne Division. My older brother was also an Army medic, and my younger brother was a Black Hawk crew chief. With another brother serving in the Navy, it was instilled in me the belief that service is bigger than any individual.
It’s about being part of something greater than yourself and leaving things better than you found them.
I’m also excited to lead our national service and transition service officer corps. Veterans are in good hands when they’re involved.
I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Jim Marszalek for not only his leadership as national service director but also his continued dedication to disabled veterans near and far. I wish him luck and nothing but success as he embarks on his journey as assistant executive director of DAV Washington Headquarters.
He leaves big shoes to fill, and you have my commitment to live up to the example he set every day.
I’m grateful for this opportunity and excited for the road ahead. Thank you for your trust and support as we move forward into this new chapter.
