In February, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced a set of extensions to temporary policies initiated in April 2020 and aimed at providing veterans continued financial relief due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
By way of an executive order from the White House, the moratorium on evictions and foreclosures, as well as VA loan forbearance requests, has been extended to June 30, while the pause of all veteran benefit overpayments and medical copayment debts has been extended through Sept. 30.
“Veterans can sometimes face unexpected debt collection from the VA, some of which is due to overpayments that weren’t even their fault,” said Washington Headquarters Executive Director Randy Reese. “Extending this pause on debt collections, in addition to the pause on evictions and home foreclosures, will give veterans in need much-needed financial relief while navigating the trying times of COVID-19.”
