Today’s attacks at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul—which claimed the lives of several U.S. Marines and one Navy Corpsman and wounded many others amid the humanitarian evacuation efforts—are yet another major blow to the veteran community during this difficult time. DAV recognizes the complex range of emotions many veterans are experiencing as this situation continues to unfold. Our hearts remain with the families and friends of the fallen, and we urge veterans impacted by this situation to reach out if they’re having a difficult time and need to speak to someone. The Veterans Crisis Line is available 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255, and thousands of trained DAV service officers stand ready nationwide to direct veterans to available resources.
DAV statement on Kabul attacks
DAV is an organization of veterans helping veterans.
The reasons are as individual as our members. Some join for the fellowship at our more than 1,200 local chapters. Some for the inspiring national events. Others for opportunities to serve their fellow veterans and their families. And many join to continue the fight to support the rights and benefits of all veterans. DAV understands the needs of veterans because we are veterans—1 million strong. We invite you to join our cause.
