This award also recognizes her distinguished service on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and ongoing dedication to advancing legislation to enhance the lives of those who have served.

DAV statement on the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act not receiving a vote:
DAV is relieved that the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act was not brought up for a final vote today, but we remain determined to work with our VSO colleagues and Congress to enact the Major Richard Star Act and other critical veterans bills this year.
We recognize the significant effort and strong emotions surrounding this legislation, and we appreciate the good faith engagement of veterans, lawmakers, advocates and stakeholders who made their voices heard throughout the process.
This was a contentious debate, and it highlighted the deep commitment shared across the veterans’ community to protect the benefits and services earned through sacrifice. While disagreements emerged over the best path forward, one thing became clear: we must remain united in our efforts to ensure justice is achieved and maintained for all those who served or will serve in the future.
Moving forward, DAV believes the focus must immediately return to finding bipartisan, bicameral solutions that unite veterans and can be approved this year.
DAV remains committed to working with Congress, VA and the veterans’ community to uphold the nation’s obligation to all of America’s veterans, their families, caregivers and survivors.
