DAV (Disabled American Veterans) held its annual national convention Aug. 1–4 at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Florida. Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Paul R. Lawrence, second-in-command and chief operating officer for the nation’s second-largest federal department, delivered an address to an audience of thousands of ill and injured veterans, their families, and supporters.
“DAV is committed to protecting the benefits veterans and their families, survivors and caregivers earned through sacrifice and service. We appreciate hearing from Deputy Secretary Lawrence about the VA’s progress and priorities, especially considering proposed legislation that could cut earned benefits and reduce disability compensation for existing and future veterans,” said DAV CEO Barry Jesinoski.
Other convention proceedings included DAV members voting on hundreds of resolutions that will directly influence legislative advocacy efforts, numerous presentations to veterans’ supporters, and the election of DAV’s new national commander and other leadership positions.
