DAV is proud to see the passage and signing of the Aviator Cancer Examination Study (ACES) Act into law. Military toxic exposures and environmental hazards have harmed service members for over a century. For years, DAV has been committed to raising awareness about the elevated cancer risks faced by our nation’s military, including aviators and aircrew.
The ACES Act requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to partner with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to study and report on the prevalence and mortality of cancers among former aircrew members who regularly flew in fixed-wing aircraft.
We extend our gratitude for the bipartisan, bicameral leadership of Senators Mark Kelly and Tom Cotton, and Representatives August Pfluger and Jimmy Panetta, all of whom are veterans, for championing this vital legislation. Their commitment to the cause of ending the wait for toxic-exposed veterans has transformed advocacy into meaningful action.
DAV will continue to work tirelessly with the VA and Congress to ensure the swift and effective implementation of the ACES Act. We will not rest until every veteran impacted by toxic exposures receives the full support and benefits, they have rightfully earned.
