The Purple Heart Veterans Education Act (H.R. 790/S. 342), would allow veterans who are awarded the Purple Heart after discharge for service on or after September 11, 2001, to transfer their unused Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits to their dependents.

Current law restricts GI Bill transferability to service members who have completed at least six years of active duty. This bill removes those service length requirements for Purple Heart recipients, ensuring that those who were wounded in service to our nation can pass on their earned educational benefits to their families.

The bill also provides flexibility for families by allowing veterans to modify or revoke transferred benefits and ensuring dependents can continue using benefits even after the veteran’s death.
