In the past three years, DAV Caregivers Support has aided thousands of caregivers who are providing care to a veteran and veterans who are themselves providing care for a loved one. As DAV Caregivers Support marks its third anniversary, program leaders encourage more people to participate in this no-cost resource that provides personalized support and access to national, local and community-based resources.

“It has been rewarding to see how this program has grown in such a short amount of time, and we look forward to supporting even more caregivers and veterans who are providing care,” said DAV National Caregiver Support Program Director Ron Minter. “Caregivers provide invaluable help, and we will continue to support their needs, including reducing caregiver stress and isolation.”

DAV Caregivers Support aims to improve the quality of life for veterans and their caregivers while extending the time they can remain in their homes.

Caregivers help with daily routines and activities such as transportation, preparing meals and assisting with personal care. Many caregivers also provide support for other needs based on their loved ones’ individual circumstances.

Since its launch in 2023, DAV Caregivers Support has:

  • Registered more than 3,500 individuals for DAV Caregivers Support
  • Conducted approximately 20,000 calls with caregivers
  • Sent more than one care plan to nearly 1,000 caregivers
  • Supported caregivers in 46 states

Through the DAV Caregivers Support Program, caregivers can access:

  • Online resources and risk screening to better understand their role as a caregiver
  • Digital tools to support their caregiving responsibilities
  • Personalized care plans and one-on-one support from a trained caregiver specialist with experience supporting veterans and their loved ones

“Caregivers have responded with grace and compassion, and we look forward to continuing our mission to help even more,” said Minter.
