DAV joins the nation and the people of the great state of Georgia in mourning the passing of Sen. Johnny Isakson, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 76. Senator Isakson, a veteran of the Georgia Air National Guard, was an advocate for the men and women who have served and supporter of DAV-backed legislation aimed at caring for our nation’s veterans and their families. Although he retired in 2019 for health reasons, his legacy in the Senate was honored when his name was attached to the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020, which included the Deborah Samson Act strengthening programs and services for women veterans. Isakson was also instrumental in helping to pass the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act in 2019. DAV recognized Senator Isakson with our Veterans Champion Award in 2018 for his lifetime of advocacy on behalf of veterans, their families and survivors. Our sincere condolences and solemn prayers are with the Isakson family. May he rest in peace.
DAV Mourns Passing of Sen. Isakson
DAV is an organization of veterans helping veterans.
The reasons are as individual as our members. Some join for the fellowship at our more than 1,200 local chapters. Some for the inspiring national events. Others for opportunities to serve their fellow veterans and their families. And many join to continue the fight to support the rights and benefits of all veterans. DAV understands the needs of veterans because we are veterans—1 million strong. We invite you to join our cause.
