CLAIM: TCAVA is the biggest veterans bill in a generation and represents a once in a lifetime opportunity.
REALITY: Proponents of TCAVA fail to acknowledge the historic Honoring Our PACT Act (~$277 billion), the MISSION Act (~$50 billion), the Choice Act (~$35 billion) and the Post-9/11 GI Bill (~$70 billion), all of which were approved without PAYGO cuts or other significant savings provisions. Similarly, the Forever GI Bill, the original Caregiver bill, the Hannon veterans mental healthcare bill, the Clay Hunt suicide prevention bill and the COMPACT Act were also enacted without offsets or saving provisions. And all of these bills were backed by a united VSO and veterans community and a bipartisan coalition in Congress. That has been the pattern for generations.
