RENO, Nev. — DaVita Inc., a Denver based health care company, has been named the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Outstanding Large Employer of the Year.

According to the company, DaVita hired 654 veterans in 2017 in all areas of their business, including patient care technicians, registered nurses and equipment technicians, as well as leadership and corporate positions. The organization employs a military recruiting liaison that focuses on attracting and hiring veterans, including disabled veterans and their spouses.

Last September, DaVita launched what the company refers to as “national veteran interview day” and interviewed more than 250 veterans for positions nationwide.

The company also has its own professional development programs that are designed to help ease the often challenging transition from the military to civilian employment. Each transition program features around 80 veteran participants and 14 veteran guides who focus on areas such as emotional intelligence, communication and team building, according to DaVita.

“Our military veterans, military spouses and reservists help us define what it means to be a community first and a company second,” said Kent Thiry, DaVita CEO and chairman. “It’s our privilege to support them in every way we can.”

“Hiring veterans isn’t so much philanthropy as it is just good business sense,” said DAV National Commander Delphine Metcalf-Foster. “Veterans and disabled veterans alike come to the workforce with experience in management, leadership, working in teams, discipline and a zero-mission-failure attitude. I’m grateful for what DaVita has done for the men and women who served. They clearly know that when you hire veterans, you hire some very skilled and sought-after talent.”

About DAV:
DAV empowers veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. It is dedicated to a single purpose: fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served. DAV does this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; providing employment resources to veterans and their spouses; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life. DAV, a nonprofit organization with more than 1 million members, was founded in 1920 and chartered by the U. S. Congress in 1932.
