VA Secretary, Chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Discuss Changes in Veterans Health Care and Benefits and VA Reform at DAV’s (Disabled American Veterans) National Convention

WHAT:

An expected 4,000 ill and injured veterans, their caregivers, families and guests will attend DAV’s (Disabled American Veterans) National Convention, July 31- Aug. 3, in Atlanta, Ga. VA Secretary Bob McDonald and Chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Senator Johnny Isakson will take part in a moderated discussion and Q&A session regarding the future of VA health care and proposals for reform. Additionally, legislative and policy issues affecting veterans and what to expect with the upcoming Presidential election will be addressed throughout the four-day event. The election of DAV’s new National Commander and line officers will also take place.

The Joint Opening Session will be open to members of the press and feature the following media opportunities. Media planning to attend must register to obtain press credentials.

Sunday, July 31, 2016 – Joint Opening Session

8:30 – 12:00 p.m.

The Hon. Robert A. McDonald will address DAV members, highlighting reforms in the Department of Veterans Affairs and the vision for the future.

12:30 – 1:15 p.m.

Department of Veterans Affairs Under Secretary for Health Dr. David J. Shulkin will speak about VA healthcare reform and VA efforts to improve access and quality of care for veterans.

1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

Secretary McDonald and Chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Senator Johnny Isakson will participate in an open discussion regarding VA healthcare reform, steps being taken and the long-term plan for veterans’ healthcare.
