2016_Convention_Logo_AtlantaCOLD SPRING, Ky. – Horace Scott Jr., of Newington, Connecticut, and Jeannie Kyle, of Spokane, Washington, have each been selected by DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and the DAV Auxiliary as the charity’s top volunteers. The 2016 George H. Seal Memorial Trophy will be presented by DAV National Commander Moses A. McIntosh Jr. at the organization’s 95th National Convention July 31 in Atlanta.

“This year’s recipients embody service over self,” said McIntosh. “Volunteerism is the cornerstone of DAV’s mission, and Horace and Jeannie have demonstrated an unmatched commitment to the men and women who served.

“DAV is blessed to have the most prolific volunteer programs in the nation when it comes to supporting our heroes,” added McIntosh. “From our hospital volunteers and Transportation Network drivers to our Local Veterans Assistance Program, we’re fortunate to have people like Horace and Jeannie providing a meaningful and special thanks that honors the sacrifices of those who’ve served.”

Scott, a Navy veteran and life member of DAV Chapter 12 in Hartford, Connecticut, has volunteered through the Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Program for more than 26 years – dedicating 24,000 hours of his time to his fellow veterans in the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. Scott has volunteered in various capacities, including serving as a volunteer driver, which ensures veterans are able to access the health care they have earned.

Kyle began volunteering with DAV nearly 30 years ago. With a husband, brother and stepson who are veterans, Kyle committed herself to giving back to the men and women who served. In the past 11 years, Kyle has amassed more than 13,000 volunteer hours. She also serves as a Hospital Service Coordinator at the VA Medical Center in Spokane.

The prestigious volunteer awards honor the best of thousands of remarkable men and women who serve in the Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Program. The awards are conferred in memory of George H. Seal, who served as DAV’s Director of Membership and Voluntary Services and the leading organizer and administrator of DAV volunteer programs.

“Our 2016 George H. Seal Trophy recipients stepped up to answer the call to service,” said McIntosh. “They go above and beyond to honor the promises made to the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.”
