At a DAV job fair in Phoenix earlier this year, Marine Corps veteran Chris Peer made a connection that changed the trajectory of his career. Previously stalled in his job search, Peer wanted to find purposeful work, but physical pain from a service-connected disability had changed the types of jobs he could do.
He approached his job search with an open mind and was ready for the opportunity when it presented itself. Read his story here: https://www.dav.org/learn-more/news/2025/finding-purpose-after-the-infantry/.
Peer’s inspirational story is a great example of the different kinds of opportunities that can be found at DAV job fairs. It’s not all about finding a job–success can appear in many different forms.
NEW AT THE DAV JOB FAIRS:
This year, we began hosting informational seminars before some of our job fairs to introduce more veterans and their families to all aspects of DAV.
Our goal for these seminars is to increase event turnout and raise awareness of DAV. We are only conducting a limited number of these seminars but expect to do more next year.
Information seminars cover topics like our:
- Mission and our history of service
- Benefits advocacy
- Volunteerism, including the transportation network
- Rehabilitative events and adaptive sports programs
- DAV Caregivers Support program
- Patriot Boot Camp entrepreneurship program
- Employment resources
- Legislative advocacy, including the Commander’s Actions Network
Please check our site to see which events are happening soon!
JOB FAIRS NEAR YOU:
As member leaders, we want to encourage you to be familiar about the job fairs in your area and recommend them to your veteran friends and anyone with a military background. We’ll be having a job fair ahead of the convention in Las Vegas! We hope to see members there on Thursday, Aug. 9.
Have you or a veteran you know lost your government job due to the federal cuts? Our job fairs and resources are an excellent resource for networking and connecting with employers. Please stay aware of upcoming events in your area and encourage attendance for any eligible job seekers you know.
