“DAV mourns the loss of President James E. “Jimmy” Carter, a 1946 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a Navy veteran who served as a surface warfare officer and a pioneer in nuclear submarine development. Among the first to operate nuclear-powered vessels, a Seawolf-class submarine bears the 39th President’s name. His dedication to public service extended beyond the Navy and his presidency, earning him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for advancing human rights and conflict resolution.

“A lifelong humanitarian, President Carter volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for over 35 years, building affordable housing and strengthening communities worldwide. His legacy as a servant leader and advocate for democracy will continue to inspire generations. Fair winds and following seas, Mr. President.”
