Today is the opening day of the 2026 National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, co-presented by DAV and Adaptive Sports and Arts - U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs! This week, hundreds of disabled veterans, volunteers, caregivers, instructors and sponsors will take part in various adaptive sporting and rehabilitative activities in Snowmass, Colorado. Gold Star Spouses Day is observed each year on April 5. It honors the husbands and wives of service members who died while serving or as a result of service-connected causes. The term dates back to World War I. At that time, families displayed service flags in their windows. A blue star meant a loved one was serving, and a gold star signified they had died. Over time, the term “Gold Star family” became a way to recognize surviving immediate family members, including spouses.

DAV partnered with Sinclair, Inc. this year to launch Sinclair Cares: DAV Community Impact Day, a nationwide volunteer campaign dedicated to supporting America’s veterans and their families.
