On this #PurpleHeartDay, DAV encourages you to take a moment to reflect on the brave individuals who’ve been wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice in service. Without their bravery and resiliency, we wouldn’t have many of the freedoms that we practice today. Do you know any Purple Heart recipients? We encourage you to pay them tribute in the comments below.

We call on DAV members and supporters to contact their Senators and urge them to cosponsor and support S. 800. Click here to take action: dav.la/s800 .
S. 800, the Precision Brain Health Research Act of 2025, seeks to expand the scope of the VA Precision Medicine for Veterans Initiative. The bill aims to identify and research critical brain health and mental wellness concerns among veterans affected by repetitive low-level blast exposures, dementia and other brain and mental health conditions sustained during military service. Research shows that even mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) can lead to long-term mental health and medical consequences, including a higher risk of developing dementia. Symptoms often occur alongside post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and post-traumatic visual syndrome, complicating diagnosis and treatment.
The VA has not yet established TBI programs that fully address the long-term needs of these veterans, leaving gaps in neurobehavioral rehabilitation. The bill would establish a collaborative data-sharing platform between the VA and the Department of Defense that would serve as a central repository for research data. This will help to ensure secure storage and easy access for future studies to advance veterans’ brain and mental health programs.

This past Saturday, DAV members once again joined the annual Ohio Paddlefest, the nation’s largest paddling celebration with some 2,000 participants traveling down the Ohio in canoes, kayaks and other human-powered craft.
Paddlefest is organized by ADVENTURE CREW, a charity organization that connects city teens to nature and each other through engaging outdoor adventures.
Working in tandem, Tom Conlan, a Marine veteran and member of DAV Chapter 1 in Cincinnati, and Liz Stetler, an Army veteran and member of DAV Chapter 19 in Erlanger, KY, recruited a crew of local veterans to course the 9.2-mile trek down the Ohio River in the DAV Voyager canoe. This year’s crew consisted of local veterans representing the U.S. Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy!
Thank you to our incredible paddlers of the DAV Voyager canoe and to Adventure Crew for the canoe and great mission.
