midwinter_2017-coverWho: Hundreds of veterans from across the country are joining forces in Washington, D.C. for the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Mid-Winter Conference

What: The annual event brings ill and injured veterans to our nation’s capital to engage in grassroots activism on critical issues facing the men and women who served. This year’s highlights include:

  • The organization’s first Coast Guard veteran and quadruple amputee to serve as National Commander, Dave Riley, will present DAV’s legislative agenda to Congress
  • The new VA Secretary Dr. David Shulkin, will address DAV members on the roadmap for continued department modernization under his lead, and will be recognized for his leadership as Under Secretary of Health with DAV’s Federal Executive of the Year Award
  • DAV members will engage their legislators and staff on issues of importance to veterans in their state and across the country, including:
    • Sensible and lasting fixes for the VA health care system
    • Extension of caregiver support to veterans of all service eras
    • Equitable services for women veterans
    • Actionable reform of the VA appeals process

  • Feb. 26: 9 a.m. – Secretary Shulkin addresses DAV members during opening business session
  • Feb. 28: 2 p.m. – Commander Riley presents DAV’s 2017 legislative priorities to Congress

Where: Testimony to the Joint House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee is in Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room SD-G50. All conference meetings are at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA, including the session with Secretary David Shulkin.
