ORLANDO, Fla. – DAV (Disabled American Veterans) has selected Navy veteran Serena Bermudez as the DAV National Commander’s Award recipient for the 2022 Outstanding Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER). Bermudez, of Woodbridge, Virginia, will be formally recognized Aug. 7 during the 2022 DAV and Auxiliary National Convention in Orlando, Florida.

Bermudez has been a veterans employment representative with the Virginia Employment Commission since 2015. In her role, she prepares veterans for the workforce and connects them with local employers in the public and private sectors. She also regularly speaks to various military and community organizations in her area about veteran employment and benefits resources.

“She continues to be an approachable person who loves to share her extensive knowledge of opportunities with other veterans, to provide a sense of purpose for themselves and their families,” said Robert Bent, a past DAV National Executive Committee member.

Bermudez is an active member of DAV Chapter 48 in Woodbridge.

“Her contributions to the [Virginia Employment Commission] and her local community have been nothing less than outstanding,” said Edward DuPass, her supervisor. “The focus she puts on assisting these veterans is beyond extraordinary, especially those with significant barriers to employment.”

DAV does this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them, fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill, providing employment resources to veterans and their families, and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.
