Veteran’s desire to help leads to bequest gift to DAV

The lasting physical and emotional impacts of war are something veterans like Keith Kramer know all too well.

“As a Korean War veteran having served two tours of duty, and as a life member of DAV, I cannot stress strongly enough the importance of donating to DAV,” Kramer said of the easy decision he made to name DAV in his estate plans. “My daughter is No. 1 in my life, but DAV is an important part of my will. I feel I’ve donated substantially and encourage others, as they can, to participate.”

When asked what prompted him to include DAV in his financial planning, Kramer humbly explained that his interest is in helping people. “Early in life, we often don’t have the wherewithal to do much for others,” he said. “Most people are in a better position to do something for others in their later years.”

This statement rings true for so many people. That’s why it’s often said that even though not everyone has the capacity to give during their lifetime, anyone can give through a bequest. A bequest of any size can have a tremendous impact on the work that DAV contributes for those who’ve served every single day, and can be for as much—or as little—as one can afford.

If, like Keith Kramer, you would like to find a balance between taking care of your loved ones and helping the veterans you are so passionate about, a bequest to DAV might be the philanthropic answer you are looking for. Through a bequest, you can name DAV as recipient of your full estate, a set amount, or a percentage of your estate. A simple change to a beneficiary designation form is sometimes all it takes to ensure you are leaving a legacy of love and compassion for our wounded heroes and help DAV be here to serve the next generation of veterans who need our support.

Upon notification of Kramer’s very generous legacy gift, DAV immediately added him to the ranks of its legacy donors by making him a DAV Guardian Society member. The DAV Guardian Society is our way of showing appreciation to the men and women who stand with us by creating a legacy of hope for the millions of veterans we serve.
