Mobile service offices keep rolling into autumn

More than 100 stops slated this fall

DAV’s National Service Officers have been running a highly ambitious schedule all year, delivering top-notch claims representation directly to veterans and their families around the country. DAV has set up its Mobile Service Offices in nearly 1,000 different locations this year, concentrating largely on rural areas and many colleges and university campuses.

“We want to go where we can have the greatest impact. We’re looking for new places and ways we can get in front of the veterans who need us most. And that often means getting out on the road,” said National Service Director Jim Marszalek. “Our offices aren’t always easy for veterans to visit due to distance, transportation, health and other reasons. When we go to veterans where they live, we increase their access to benefits and help keep that promise that is at the core of DAV’s mission.”

DAV has recently intensified outreach on returning veterans who are unaware of the benefits they earned and the services the organization offers. By deploying Mobile Service Offices to colleges and universities to conduct site visits, DAV is able to assist veteran students and people in surrounding communities who might otherwise go unserved. Campus visits include the University of Texas, Arizona State University and Indiana State University.

With 10 specially equipped Mobile Service Offices visiting communities across the country, this outreach effort generates a considerable amount of claims work from veterans who may not otherwise have the opportunity to seek assistance at DAV’s national service offices.

In the past year, mobile offices traveled more than 100,000 miles, visiting to 922 cities and towns to include 118 college and university locations. DAV advocates served 23,645 veterans and their families during these stops. Nearly $1.1 million was expended for the mobile program in 2014.

This year’s schedule has even more stops. More than a hundred stops are still on the schedule this fall.
