On November 11, 1918, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, an armistice went in effect ending hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany. The date was proclaimed Armistice Day, and was set aside to recognize those who'd served and died for the nation.

It was thought that World War I would be the "war to end all wars." But after World War II had demanded so much of America's men and women in uniform, and shortly following the Korean War, Congress changed the holiday to Veterans Day, which we continue to celebrate each year.

Every year, on Veterans Day, the DAV reaches out to lawmakers and public institutions by creating a Veterans Day poster honoring the services and sacrifices veterans have made and continue to make on behalf of our grateful citizens.
