A retired Air Force veteran who suffered major home damage during the severe winter weather received much-needed assistance from DAV Chapter 19, Northern Kentucky, and volunteers from the Home Depot in Cold Spring, Ky.
Retired Air Force Staff Sgt. Randall Russ, of Dry Ridge, Ky., who had extensive water, furniture and structural damage to his residence as a result of a frozen pipe, needed assistance cleaning up, removing the standing water and repairing the physical damage.
“I didn’t really expect anything,” Russ said. “I thank DAV and Home Depot and their volunteers for coming out and helping me take care of this situation. I appreciate all the help and all the volunteers.”
National Headquarters Executive Director Barry Jesinoski said helping a fellow veteran is a cornerstone of DAV’s mission of service and its armed forces heritage. “We’re taught from day one of military service to never leave a teammate behind. That mindset certainly carries over into civilian life after we transition out of uniform,” he said. “DAV and our friends at Home Depot have stepped up to help this veteran during his time of need, after he sacrificed so much for his country.
