2,000 participants expected for Saturday’s race from Sawyer Point

COLD SPRING, Ky. (November 6, 2013) DAV (Disabled American Veterans) will hold its inaugural national 5K event Saturday, Nov. 9, to honor the nation’s veterans and raise awareness for veterans’ issues and programs.
The DAV 5K is expecting some 2,000 participants who can walk, run, roll or ride a motorcycle on the DAV 5K route, which will start and end at Sawyer Point along the riverfront in downtown Cincinnati. Race-day registration is available on site at Sawyer Point beginning at 7 a.m. The race will officially begin at 8:40 a.m. with the national anthem performed by Heather French Henry, Miss America 2000 and veterans advocate, followed by these activities:

Several DAV national leaders and special guests are scheduled to attend and support the event including: DAV National Commander Joe Johnston, and Past National Commanders Bobby Barrera, Dick Marbes, and Rob Reynolds.
“This national 5K is the first of its kind for DAV to give our community a way to thank those who have served our country,” said Marc Burgess, CEO and National Adjutant of DAV. “It also is an opportunity to raise awareness to the issues our nation’s heroes face when they return home after service, especially when the number of disabled veterans is expected to rise from three million to four million by the end of the decade.”
