In 2010, the Harley-Davidson Foundation made a second $1 million grant to Disabled
American Veterans (DAV) to support our nation's heroes through the Harley’s Heroes®
program. Harley-Davidson’s relationship with the DAV dates to 2006, when the Harley-Davidson
Foundation made a prior $1 million grant to the organization.
Harley’s Heroes brings benefits, education, and counseling to veterans in communities
all across the United States through the DAV Mobile Service Office (MSO). The DAV
MSO program increases veterans’ accessibility to benefits by literally putting service
offices on the road. Since 2007, this program sponsored by Harley-Davidson -- dubbed
Harley’s Heroes -- has visited thousands of sites across the United States, providing
important counseling and assistance to help tens of thousands of veterans and their
families secure the benefits to which they are entitled from the Department of Veterans
Affairs, the Department of Defense, and other government agencies. The MSOs are
staffed by highly trained professional DAV counselors who are skilled experts in
developing and prosecuting veterans’ claims.
Both Harley-Davidson and DAV have a rich history and long legacy of working with
our nation’s military and veterans.
Harley-Davidson’s commitment to the U.S. military dates back almost 100 years. After
use in the Mexican Expedition, the U.S. military commissioned nearly one-third of
all Harley-Davidson motorcycles produced in 1917 to support efforts during World
War I, and nearly half of the Motor Company’s production in 1918.
DAV is a non-profit organization founded in 1920 and chartered by the U.S. Congress
in 1932, that represents this nation’s disabled veterans. It is dedicated to a single
purpose: building better lives for our nation’s disabled veterans and their families.
DAV assistance is provided in various ways; helping veterans obtain earned benefits,
transportation to/from hospitals, relief from disasters, and educating the public
about disabled veterans’ issues.
You can join Harley-Davidson and the DAV to honor our nation’s heroes by helping
us to provide them with the service and support they need. To help support these
